Mission Statement

At Sunshine Station Early Learning Center our primary mission is to provide a nurturing, safe, and engaging environment that supports the overall development of the children in our program, while utilizing the most competent and trained staff available to develop the social/emotional and school readiness skills they will need as they continue with their academic careers.

Philosophy of Learning

At Sunshine Station ELC, our staff believes that young children learn best through play and benefit the most from a variety of engaging experiences and learning materials. We believe that all children, especially those under six years of age, require nurturing and age-appropriate expectations, a safe and comforting atmosphere for them to explore, and a home-like approach to their daily activities. Our staff is dedicated to the concept that each child be made to feel that they are an important and vital part of our center’s community.

Curriculum

Every child at Sunshine Station ELC will be exposed to a variety of engaging and age-appropriate programs taught by a qualified and experienced teacher and based on the Delaware Early Learning Foundations, a set of goals and objective set forth by the Delaware Department of Education. Throughout the day your child will stay with their teacher and group of peers. This familiarity encourages bonds to form and creates a sense of stability and assurance. Sunshine Station ELC maintains a low teacher/child ratio.

Sunshine Station ELC acknowledges that children under the age of six are a precious resource, and that most of their crucial learning happens to them in these early years. Our vision is to provide the best developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the following domains:

• Language Development • Mathematics/Science

• Creative Arts
• Emotional and Social Development

• Physical Health and Development
• My Family, My Community, My World (Social Studies)

We recognize that your child will be learning from our staff and from one another just as if they were at home. We strongly believe that good manners, common courtesy, and consideration for others will serve a child well throughout the course of his/her life. We strive to practice those virtues at all times within our center. We will encourage your child toward compassion by being compassionate ourselves.
To assist in the educational goals of our program, we currently utilize the Mother Goose Curriculum and Ages & Stages Developmental Screening Tools.

Sunshine Station ELC welcomes children of all races and religions. In accordance with Federal law and U.S. Department of Agriculture policy, this institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. (Not all prohibited bases apply to all programs.)
